The Golden Toilet

Before the 2001 inauguration of George Bush, he was invited to a get-acquainted tour of the White House. After drinking several glasses of iced tea, he asked Bill Clinton if he could use his personal bathroom.

When he entered Clinton’s private toilet, he was astonished to see that President Clinton had a solid gold urinal.

That afternoon, George told his wife, Laura, about the urinal. “Just think,” he said, “when I am president, I could have a gold urinal too. But I wouldn’t do something that self indulgent!”

Later when Laura had lunch with Hillary at her tour of the White House, she told Hillary how impressed George had been at his discovery of the fact that, in the President’s private bathroom, the President had a gold urinal.

That evening, when Bill and Hillary were getting ready for bed, Hillary smiled, and said to Bill, “I found out who pissed in your saxophone.”

The Platinum Supply Problem

According to a NewsWeek article I was reading today, cataltyic converters have become a popular item among thieves. The article says that "about 60 percent of the world's platinum supply goes into them". With automobile ownership growing as fast as it is in China and India, platinum is going to become an even rarer commodity. Does this mean that the cars made in those two countries will not be equipped with the pollution saving devices?

My guess is yes.

The $2,500 Doomsday Device

"India's Tata Motors today unveiled the Nano, its much-anticipated $2,500 car, an ultracheap price tag that brings car ownership into the reach of tens of millions of people."
In India, there are fewer than 10 cars for every thousand people, compared with 450 in the U.S. If this remarkable piece of engineering enables Indians to achieve an automobile ownership rate 25% of the U.S. Rate then that could amount to an additional 130 million autos on the planet in the near future.
To put that in perspective, at 450 per 1000, there are currently just over 130 million autos in the us.
It is obvious that we can't just tell developing nations like India and China they can not enjoy the standard of living that we have enjoyed for the last 100 years but I fear that if they follow the same course then we are all doomed.

Two Schools of Thought

Among Americans, there are basically two schools of thought on the illegal immigration issue. One is that of those that perform the jobs taken by illegal immigrants; the other is of those who do not. It seems to be popular among the second group to refuse to acknowledge the existence of the first group.

If you are of the later I make this challenge; consider the effect on your job if we were suddenly flooded with individuals from across the border that were able to step in and perform your job as well as you but were happy to do it for minimum wage.

How long do you think it would take before there were few Americans that would want your then minimum wage job?

How long do you think you would hold your present opinion?

Look Into Thier Eyes

My father was a hard working American who did the right thing. He was poorly educated and worked mostly construction or agricultural jobs. He worked hard, raised his family without taking one dime of charity, and religiously paid into his government mandated pension fund (Social Security). He is now retired and on his 900 per month, can't afford basic needs like food and medicine. How can we look my father in the eye and tell him we need to spend the money he put away for he and my mother on a young family from Latin America. Not because the young family is hungry or threatened with political imprisonment or genocide but simply because they want and deserve a better life in America.
